Last week, my son Emmett turned two! He absolutely loves trains and specifically loves reading Thomas the train books, so it was easy to decide on a Thomas themed birthday party this year. About a month before his birthday I started pinning ideas on pinterest and this is how my version turned out.
I had seen a few pins on creating a train with party food. So I used some blue paper food trays from hobby lobby and hot-glued black construction paper circles to create wheels on the carts. I used the Thomas toy my son already had to be the start of the train.
My husband made these “Coal” treats using cocoa krispies, crushed oreos, marshmallow, and a little bit of black food coloring. They were very chocolatey!
Representing “Lumber” were pretzles dipped in chocolate almond bark!
I was very proud of this idea…We were trying to come up with an element to represent the “Steam” of a steam engine and I thought of Steam floats. Lemon-Lime Soda and Vanilla Ice Cream made a white creamy frothy beverage! These blue and white paper straws really added a fun touch!
These balloons are from Amazon. We took them to our local grocery store to get filled with helium.
And the centerpiece was the cake of course! I made a two tiered Cookies and Cream Cake using a delicious recipie from Preppy Kitchen. I covered it in homemade marshmallow fondant decorations and used small toy trains on top. I love how it came out!
I used blue and red streamers to create a fun backdrop. Scotch tape held them in place very nicely.
This is the birthday banner I created with felt for Emmet’s first birthday and I hope to reuse it every year!
My mom got the cutest Thomas shirt from the GAP.
Look at that face! the birthday party was TRAIN-TASTIC! 🙂
Please feel free to pin and share!
